A mountain just west of downtown Riverside, California, Mount Rubidoux serves as both a city park and a landmark. A long-time popular tourist destination in Souther California, the site is know for hosting the oldest non-denominational Easter sunrise service in the United States every year. This tradition started in 1909 when a friend of President Theodore Roosevelt, Jacob Riis, was in town and suggested the idea. The mountain is also used to launch fireworks off of every Fourth of July.

The mountain was named for Louis Rubidoux, a famous local rancher who established Rancho Rubidoux in 1847.

While hiking it, you'll not only enjoy great views of Riverside, but the Santa Ana River at the base of the mountain and you'll come across numerous historic markers and memorials. The most prominent of these monuments is the cross erected at the summit dedicated to Father Junipero Serra.

The park itself is open daily from dawn until dusk and covers 161 acres, which include 3.5 miles of paved roads and dirt hiking trails. Besides hiking, the park is popular with joggers, cyclists, and climbers.
